Free speech-We are all Pussy Riot

Freedom of speech. One of the founding principals of the United States and an essential part of free societies. It must be defended against individuals, governments, and organizations. And it must be defended for every vile piece of hatred expressed.

Pussy Riot, the Russian punk band just sentenced to 2 years in prison for “hooliganism,” has been targeted by the government for their anti-Putin music. They did trespass onto a cathedral to perform a impromptu concert. They should be sited for that, maybe a short stint in jail is appropriate. Like so many others they are being made an example of charged with criminal hooliganism, a crime used on many protesters and others who oppose the current regime.
Criminal hooliganism in Russia has to be “a gross violation of public order, showing a disrespect for society.” It must involve weapons or objects used as weapons, or be done for motives of political, ideological, racial, national, or religious hatred, or hatred toward a social group.
Oppressive laws against freedom of expression are tools for those in power to keep that power.
From Chalkers getting arrested all over the USA to political prisoners around the world, people are not free unless all are free.
When one voice is silenced all our voices are threatened.
We are all Pussy Riot
We are all Assange
We are all Anonymous
We are all Silenced until we all can speak freely
